Introduction
Sandman Dream Defenders is a game prototype designed as part of the Ubisoft game lab competition (2024 edition) whose theme was dreams. As one of the two designers on the team, I participated in the design of the game (Gameplay, scriptwriting and Tutorials). I personally designed the level, as well as the user experience.
Sandman Dream Defenders is a mix between Tower Defense and Wave Defender. In this game, players play the role of the sandman and the stuffed animal of a little girl whom they must defend from the attack of the nightmares. The goal is to eliminate the enemies who approach the portal and survive the three waves to win the game.

The design process
first version
In this version the towers had to be built first by both players from the construction point. Subsequently they had to be stored in an inventory to be able to be placed on the squares. Enemies followed linear paths.

Second version
In this version the paths have been multiplied to give enemies the possibility of choosing different paths and the number of squares has been increased accordingly. This allowed us to bring more variability to the gameplay.

Final version
In this final version, the construction point was removed to allow players to move to squares to build towers (which allows players to familiarize themselves with the level as they move through it). The number of squares has been reduced so that players do not rely solely on towers to defend the portal.

Blockout of the level
I created the Blockout of the Unity level according to the second version of the level plan presented above then I subsequently adapted it by adding the tower boxes.

Adding towers
I first added the boxes to the designated locations on version 3 of the level map and then I added the towers by design to allow the programmers to work on the tower construction mechanics.

Final result
For the final version I participated in the positioning of certain artistic elements such as flowers, mushrooms, cubes, palm trees, cacti and rocks.

Tutoriels
Pour notre prototype nous nous sommes inspirés des panneaux tutoriels du jeu Overcooked car ils permettent facilement aux joueurs de comprendre en image et avec peu de textes comment jouer.
J'ai donc désigné les panneaux avec des instructions qui devaient être remplacés plus tard par les illustrations d'un des artistes de l'équipe.
